Overview

Prairie Falcon Parkway Express is a 210-mile long, multi-modal transportation, rail and utility private sector initiative to connect and strengthen commerce between seven Colorado counties:  Adams, Arapahoe, Elbert, El Paso, Larimer, Pueblo and Weld. The project includes a four-lane-median-divided toll road, rail utilities, and associated service areas and right-of way.  The Prairie Falcon Parkway Express Company reduced the width of its existing transportation corridor from 12 miles wide down to three miles wide.

The Prairie Falcon Parkway Express Company intends to work closely with property owners, local elected officials and other interested parties to further reduce the corridor’s width from three miles (15,840 feet) to 1,200 feet (the width of two city blocks).  The final project alignment will depend on grade and design requirements and public involvement.

On Monday, August 28, 2006, the Prairie Falcon Parkway Express Company mailed a certified letter to each property owner within the three-mile wide corridor.  The letter contains details of the project including a map depicting the approximate location of the three-mile wide corridor.  Property owners in the corridor should expect to receive the certified letter the week of August 28, 2006.

The proposed corridor begins approximately thirteen to sixteen miles north of Fort Collins (connecting to I-25) and ends approximately seven to ten miles south of Pueblo (connecting to I-25). The vast majority of the corridor will be located approximately twenty-five to twenty-eight miles east of and roughly parallel to I-25.  The project will likely include a private toll road, rail line, a utility corridor, and associated service areas. Substantial open space and wildlife protection will be key components of the project.

Under Colorado law, a public process is in place to review the project. An extensive environmental analysis of the project must be prepared. Government agencies, including regional and state planning and regulatory agencies, will review the project plans, environmental analyses, and proposed mitigation. These agencies will provide substantial opportunity for public input. Colorado law does not allow for this project to go forward until receiving all governmental approvals.
